#219Lake Atter, the largest Alpine lake in Austria, with an area of 18 square miles, was pawned by the Austrian government in 1592 for a loan of $50. Hans Khevehuller, who put up the money, received temporary ownership of the lake, its fish, and all the fishermen dwelling on its shores.
