Tom Hogg

In loving memory

In Memory of C. Thomas "Tom" Hogg

March 25, 1943 – February 6, 2023

Tom Hogg was born Charles Thomas Hogg in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Frances and William, one of five boys. The family moved to Syracuse, New York, in 1956, and Tom graduated from Syracuse Central Technical High School in 1961. In May 1964 he married Charlene Woodworth, and they shared 58 years together.

Tom joined NCR in 1966. Apart from two years in the U.S. Army in Vicenza, Italy, during the Vietnam era, he spent the next twenty years there, working from field service in upstate New York to Dayton, San Diego, and NCR's world headquarters. Later he worked at Norand, Lens Lab Paris Miki, Visual Options, Cardinal Health, Safe Auto, and Bank of America Merchant Services. By his own count he moved at least 13 times in forty years, once to another country. Through all of it, he loved programming.

In the summer of 2000, Tom ("a soon-to-be senior citizen," as he put it) decided that his friends scattered around the country needed a steady supply of "jocular tidbits." MoFunny.com went live on September 30, 2000. Every weekday brought a new page: Punday on Monday, Women's Day on Wednesday, a trivia question with the answer at the end, some words of wisdom, a few things you didn't know, things that make you go Hmmm, and plenty of jokes. He rebuilt the site himself more than once, until it held thousands of jokes, quotes, trivia questions, and recipes, along with gems like "If they arrested the Energizer Bunny, would they charge it with battery?"

Away from the keyboard, Tom enjoyed woodworking and bird watching. Most of all he loved time with his grandkids, Charlie, Hannah, and Harvey, and following everything they did. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Louisville and its Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; his son, Chuck, and Chuck's wife, Angela; his grandchildren; and his brother Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers William, Bruce, and John.

For more than twenty years, Tom made people smile one daily page at a time. MoFunny is back online so he can keep right on doing it.
